We discuss in further detail what we did for each client on the pages linked below.

One of our important values is our desire to become a good partner with you. We want to teach you as much as you are comfortable learning so you can make your website work for you without unnecessary expense.

The images of the websites represent work as it was delivered to our clients. If you visit these sites, you may see changes done by the clients themselves using the content management tools we provided.

New Leaf Functional Nutrition Website

Georgia Austin, owner of New Leaf Functional Nutrition, talked with me in late 2021 about a problem she was having with email delivery. She would get frequent contacts on her website, but the email notifications were not being delivered to her. Apparently, this was a long-standing problem.

We were able to pretty quickly resolve it. We also suggested to Georgia that she enroll in our monthly technical maintenance program, which she did.

Since then, we’ve continued to refresh the site. To enhance readability, we lightened the background color for better contrast, increased the font size, and adjusted the header colors and sizes.

The footer layout was improved to make better use of the space and the copyright line was added.

Content pages have been enhanced to make them more imformative for visitors to the site.

Matthews Salon Spa Website

Matt Dydo and Colette Powers contacted me about the possibility of redoing the Matthews Salon Spa website. The current site was created using the GoDaddy website builder. After some discussion, I suggested that since the site was mostly meeting the need, it would be more economical for them to stay with it. It appeared the main concern was taking care of some content updates. The platform definitely has limitations, but we have not run into a "deal breaker" yet.

A bigger issue was handling the online side of the salon register/CRM software. New clients needed to be moved from pending to active (which hadn't been done for awhile), so that they could be activated into the integrated email program. The online booking pages needed updating and clarification (not difficult if you understand HTML, difficult if you don't). Also, the way the system handles email for the three mailing lists (2 salon locations and a barbershop) was not understood, so there was a lot of duplication between the lists. The email program is not the easiest to use. However, it is much easier to keep the lists updated and clean with an integrated system, so I recommended they stay with it.

Email templates were created for each of the three lists, with clear headers indicating which location the email is coming from. The goal with this, besides clarity, was to help clients know they were receiving multiple emails because they were on different lists, helping them unsubscribe from the proper ones.

Just before the 2022 holiday season, the salon register/CRM vendor stopped offering their integrated gift card option. We researched and implemented a new solution that is much more user-friendly for the customer. The new system provides many options the old system didn't: selection of custom gift card images; special offers; printing or emailing of gift cards to recipients. It can also easily be tracked the same way the old system was tracking, making it easy for the staff also.

Services we provide:

  • Email management, template creation, routine creation and management of weekly and monthly emails.
  • As needed content and feature updates to the website

Church of the Bells Website

A Board member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Camillus, NY (known as Church of the Bells) recommended me to take over their website management. The volunteer who had created the site and was maintaining it could no longer continue.

This was my first experience with Weebly, a DIY website platform recently taken over by Square. As with other DIY platforms, this one has limitations, but not enough to incur the expense of moving. (Can you believe that it doesn't provide for a nice logo at the top??? I tricked it to get a reasonable branded image, but really???)

The volunteer had a technology background and did a nice job with the site. As I got into it, it was apparent that he didn't (understandably) know about some web standards. One of the most significant adjustments has been moving some "looong" pages of updated content into a "blogpost" style. News & Events, Resources and the pastor's weekly message have been changed to blogs. Besides eliminating the "too long" pages, it provides a way to search for the content, ability to link to posts in emails and from other articles on the site, and maintain a "recent posts" section on the home page for easy access to new content. This also provides better SEO by having one topic per page, and the likelihood of visitors looking through more pages.

The donation software used was pretty "clunky" and not really user-friendly. We discovered the vendor offered a much nicer and more modern option, which was implemented.

We provided an improved email template that was branded for the church. We've also have coached the administrator on how to add links and buttons to content in the emails to make it easier for recipients to access the content.

The administrator and members are very conscious of updating the website content -- nice to see.

Services we provide:

  • Routine content updates to the website
  • Recommendations for the website and coaching for other digital tools
  • Consultation on technical issues.

Church of the Bells Website

This was (and continues to be) a volunteer project for WBOC. When I become a member of the Membership Committee, the chair asked me if I might be able to help with the website. The organization had recently changed its membership software to Wild Apricot and there were some problems understanding how it worked.

Wild Apricot is a full-function Membership Management Software system. It not only provides the website but manages memberships and renewals, event management, email management, payments, donations and forums. It also offers a nice mobile app that makes checking people into an event super easy.

It is a monster system, but once you understand how it works, it is a significant asset for the organization. As with all these platforms, there are areas that are a bit clunky and difficult to get working correctly. However, Wild Apricot has ongoing development and has improved some of these over time... and added nice new features.

Services we provide:

  • Initial web design, setup of backend
  • Consultation on technical issues and assistance as required

Coaching Partners Logo

Coaching Partners is an organization in Florida. Through a referral, Terry Hoffmann contacted me originally to create an email signature for her Terry Hoffmann Coaching emails.

A few years later, she rebranded her business to Coaching Partners, and as the name suggests, works with a number of coaches. She approached me again regarding the signatures. We investigated a tool that would allow her administrator to create the files for her. However, nothing provided the flexibility that she desired.

Preservation Association of Central New York Logo

We were engaged by SWB Consulting Services to serve as a subcontractor with the Preservation Association of Central New York (PACNY) to set up their new Wild Apricot Membership Management Software. PACNY already has a WordPress site and intended to keep it, so Wild Apricot needed to be integrated into the WordPress site. Upcoming events, joining the organization, making a donation and login to mange individual membership records are all served from the Wild Apricot site to WordPress.

PACNY started right away making full use of the system.

The bulk of the project was setting up the Membership Levels, populating the membership from Excel spreadsheets, and integrating the membership recurring payment option with the payment processor.

Our fundraising background came in very useful when setting up the large number of automated emails that are sent to the membership related to welcoming new members, encouraging renewals, notifying members about credit card expirations or lapsed memberships, and donation thank you emails.

We also created a branded email template for their email newsletters.

Services we provide:

  • Wild Apricot setup, integration with WordPress, coaching and training
